How To Play Faster Without Becoming Tired

How To Play Faster Without Becoming Tired

Many guitarists mistakenly believe the key to playing without getting tired is developing more hand strength or endurance, or playing with as little tension as possible.

While you do need some of that, strength and endurance are actually a very SMALL part of what you need to think about.

Here is what “really” matters:

You need to develop the skill to relax before and after playing each note.
Note that this is NOT the same as playing with minimum tension “all the time”.

If you learn to release ALL tension after you play a note then it matters little how much force you play with. You will be able to play for long periods of time (even at high speed) without becoming tired.

This technique is sometimes referred to as “Play – Relax”.

Only after you develop this skill (of releasing ALL tension “after” you play), will you really get any benefit from increase in strength and endurance of your hands.

But this skill (of increasing strength) will mostly develop from simply playing and practicing regularly, so about 95% of your efforts should be directed at the problem identified above.
